50 AALBORG ZOO One of the biggest family attractions in Aalborg is the zoo, located by Aalborg's beech forest and just a short bus trip from downtown. Covering more than three hectares, the zoo is home to over 130 species and over 1,500 individual animals. Opened in 1935, Aalborg Zoo is one of the best in Scandinavia. FRIENDLY PRICES Family amusement parks are often more expensive than you expect. Entrance fees can be sky- high and then you have to dish out for food and rides. Aalborg Zoo, on the other hand, is a very wallet-friendly attraction. The entrance fee is DKK 155 for adults and DKK 95 for children. But then you get to enjoy many freebies, such as the use of BBQs for family picnics and free animal shows. And with friendly subscription prices, Aalborg Zoo a favourite among locals as well. THE ANIMAL Whenever you see majestic exotic animals in a zoo most people's fi rst reaction is a sense of awe. But that feeling soon gives in to an uneasy recognition that keeping such magnifi cent wildlife in captivity is wrong. But Aalborg Zoo is a modern attraction where animal welfare is all-important. Polar bears have huge balls to play with, the tigers slink around in their own open habitat, the lazy lions bask in the sun and the giraffes with their astounding eyes munch away from the tallest of treetops. Traveling tips for families Aalborg is a vibrant city of contrasts – a place of fast-paced fun and peaceful relaxation. A city of contemporary design and medieval heritage. Aalborg is also a city of human scale where most attractions are within easy walking distance from the hotel. AALBORG
