33 If you're wondering what to do with the kids in Copenhagen during wintertime, then the National Aquarium Denmark, known as Den Blå Planet (The Blue Planet) will be a sure winner. It's Europe's second-largest aquarium – a striking wave-shaped attraction located next to the airport by the city's 5-kilometre-long sandy urban beach. Here you can get nose to nose with hammer sharks, see stingrays fl oat gracefully by, and watch playful Alaskan sea otters – a rare sight outside North America. There is also a waterfall with 3,000 snappy piranhas and anacondas. The aquarium also boasts a tropical Amazonian hothouse where you can experience butterfl ies and exotic birds buzzing around your ears. How to get there: Take metro line M2 towards the airport and alight at Kastrup Metro Station. Walking to the aquarium from the station will take about 10 minutes. Set aside a few hours for the visit. It's worth it. Opening hours: Tuesday – Sunday: 10:00 – 17:00. Monday: 10:00-21:00. The Blue Planet Copenhagen is a great city for family holidays year-round. The beachside aquarium is one of the city's winter favourites.
