28 Åre Ski Resort in central Sweden is as close as you can get to an Alpine experience in Scandinavia. For snowboarding and alpine skiing there are 91 kilometres of slopes serviced by 32 lifts, which transport visitors between the elevations of 380 and 1,274 metres. Åre is a hip and trendy mountain resort with a cosmopolitan atmosphere that attracts skiers from all over Europe, and even from North America. Of the 91 kilometres of pistes, 45 kilometres are considered 'easy', 38 kilometres are 'intermediate' and 8 kilometres are 'expert'. In addition, the resort offers more than 500 kilometres of prepared tracks for cross-country skiing. Opening hours follow the weather conditions. Night-skiing is generally offered between 18:00 and 20:00 at Hamrebacken and Skistarbacken in the centre of Åre. The skiing season runs from mid-November to early May, which amounts to 180 days of skiing. The nearest major airport is in Östersund where shuttle buses will be waiting to take you to Åre.
